TAKE IT DOWN Act (notice and removal of nonconsensual intimate imagery), 48-hour removal; also usable for DMCA §512 copyright notices.
- Section 3 of the TAKE IT DOWN Act took effect May 19, 2026 and is enforced by the FTC as a rule violation: civil penalties up to $53,088 per violation (FTC business guidance, May 2026).
- Covered platforms are websites, apps and online services that primarily provide a forum for user-generated content, or that regularly host or publish intimate content shared without consent.
- You must publish a clear and conspicuous plain-language notice of your removal process, accept requests from people without an account, remove valid reports and known identical copies within 48 hours, and the FTC recommends ticket numbers, status updates and hash-sharing (NCMEC Take It Down for minors, StopNCII.org for adults).
