How do I stop a company from selling my data in California?

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives California residents the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.120). Businesses that sell or share data must post a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link (§ 1798.135) and must treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out. Once you opt out, the business must stop within 15 business days under the CPPA regulations, may not ask you to opt back in for 12 months, and may not deny you service or charge more for opting out. Companies cannot require you to create an account to opt out. For data brokers you have never dealt with, the Delete Act's DROP platform lets you file one request that reaches all registered brokers.
