How long does a DMCA takedown take?

The statute does not set a fixed number of hours. 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(1)(C) requires a service provider that receives a compliant notice to "respond expeditiously to remove, or disable access to" the material in order to keep its safe harbor. In practice, large platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Google Search usually act within one to three business days, and many web hosts within a week; some forward your notice to the uploader first. Speed depends on whether your notice includes every element in § 512(c)(3) and reaches the agent registered at dmca.copyright.gov/osp. If the uploader files a counter-notice, the provider may restore the content 10 to 14 business days later unless you tell it you have filed a court action (§ 512(g)).
