Nonconsensual intimate image laws, state by state

The federal TAKE IT DOWN Act applies everywhere in the United States: publishing intimate images of an identifiable adult without consent is a federal crime, and since May 19, 2026 covered platforms must remove such images within 48 hours of a valid request. Each state also has its own statute, and those differ on whether AI-generated or altered images are covered and whether the victim can sue under the same section. This table gives the statute for every state and the District of Columbia, with the source it was taken from and whether we checked the legislature's own text.
