European Accessibility Act: what small e-commerce and service sites must publish since June 2025
The Act applies since June 28, 2025 to services offered to EU consumers including e-commerce, banking, e-books, transport ticketing and communication services. Providers must make the service accessible (WCAG 2.1 AA is the working standard), publish information on how the service meets the requirements, and handle complaints; national market-surveillance authorities enforce and consumers can file complaints with them.
Microenterprises providing services are exempt from the requirements themselves but not from the market reality that customers and partners ask for the statement.
The gap most small sites have is not the statement but the feedback channel: a way for users to report a barrier and get a tracked response.
