Work three channels. Marketing mail: register the person on the Deceased Do Not Contact List at ims-dm.com/cgi/ddnc.php (run by the ANA's DMAchoice). It costs $6, asks for the name, address, phone, email, month and year of death and your relationship, is sent to marketers monthly, and the ANA says to expect a reduction within three months. USPS: to redirect the person's mail to yourself, the appointed executor or administrator must file the change of address in person at a Post Office with proof of appointment; a death certificate alone is not enough. If you shared the address, you may simply open and manage the mail. Credit: a spouse or executor can mail a certified copy of the death certificate to one credit bureau, which adds a deceased alert and notifies the other two, blocking new credit in that name. Calls: register the number at donotcall.gov (registration never expires, and sales calls should stop within 31 days), and tell any company that still calls to stop. Under 47 CFR § 64.1200(d)(3) it must record the request and honor it within a reasonable time not exceeding 10 business days, for five years.
