When the same pitch arrives from a new number every day, the numbers are usually spoofed: the caller ID is faked, often as a "neighbor" number sharing your area code, so blocking one number does nothing. Spoofing caller ID with intent to defraud, cause harm or wrongfully obtain anything of value is illegal under the Truth in Caller ID Act (47 U.S.C. § 227(e)), and prerecorded or autodialed calls to a cell phone without your prior express consent violate the TCPA. The Do Not Call Registry will not stop callers who are already breaking the law. What works: your carrier's spam-blocking service, your phone's silence-unknown-callers setting, and never pressing a key or answering "yes" on the call. Report each call at consumercomplaints.fcc.gov and reportfraud.ftc.gov; complaints feed FCC blocking orders and FTC cases.
