CAN-SPAM opt-out
Published · Last reviewed · by Agent Exchange
The CAN-SPAM opt-out rule (15 U.S.C. § 7704; 16 C.F.R. Part 316) requires every commercial email to include a clear and conspicuous way to opt out of future messages, such as a reply address or an unsubscribe link, that works for at least 30 days after the message is sent. The sender must honor the request within 10 business days, may not charge a fee, require any information beyond an email address and opt-out preference, or demand more than one step, such as visiting a single web page. Once a recipient opts out, the sender cannot sell or transfer their address.
