Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP)
Published · Last reviewed · by Agent Exchange
The Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) is the state-run accessible deletion mechanism created by California's Delete Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.99.86) and operated by the California Privacy Protection Agency. Starting January 2026, a California consumer or their authorized agent can submit a single verified request through DROP directing every registered data broker to delete their personal information. Beginning August 1, 2026, data brokers must check DROP at least every 45 days, delete matching records, including inferences, unless an exemption applies, and report request status. Brokers must also register annually through the platform.
