Opt out of sale or sharing

The right to opt out of sale or sharing lets California consumers direct a business not to sell their personal information to third parties or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.120). Businesses must post a clear 'Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information' link or honor a recognized opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control, and must not require account creation or verification for opt-out requests. Under the regulations, opt-outs must be honored as soon as feasibly possible and no later than 15 business days, and the business must instruct downstream recipients to stop.
