Verifiable consumer request (CCPA)

A verifiable consumer request is a request to know, delete, or correct personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act that is made by a consumer, by a parent for a minor child, or by an authorized agent, and that the business can verify using commercially reasonable methods as coming from the consumer the data concerns (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140). Businesses are not required to act on requests they cannot verify, though they must explain why. CPPA regulations set verification standards scaled to the sensitivity of the data and prohibit requiring account creation solely to submit a request.
